| Dr Curran was born on a farm in County Waterford, Ireland.
He studied at University College Dublin, graduating in medicine in 1939
and with a diploma in psychological medicine in 1940. He was a psychiatrist
at Prestwich Hospital, Manchester from 1946 to 1980, in the later years
as consultant for the North West Regional Drug Treatment Centre.
He was married to Moya for 58 years until her death in 2005. They had one son and three daughters, and three grandchildren. Dr Curran was a devout Catholic, and a member of the Catholic Doctors Society. He had a life-long interested in philosophy and mathematics, and was a founding member of the British Society for Phenomenology. | |
